Overview
Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of HimachalPradesh.
The name “Spiti” means “The Middle Land”, i.e. the land between Tibet and India. The Valley covers an area of approximately 10,000 square kilometers (3,861 square miles). Known for its spectacular mountain
scenery, with snow-capped peaks, deep gorges, and high altitude lakes.
Spiti valley also has it’s unique culture and lifestyle, which is a mix of Tibetan and Indian influences. The valley is home to some of the oldest monasteries in the world, including Tabo Monastery which was founded in 996 AD.

The best time to visit Spiti Valley is from June to September, during the summer season. The weather is pleasant, and the roads are open. The winter season, from November to February, is not recommended due to extreme cold weather, and the roads are usually closed.
The roads in Spiti Valley can be challenging to drive on due to the mountainous terrain and unpaved roads. However, most roads are in good condition, and it is possible to navigate the valley in a car or motorcycle.
You should pack warm clothes, including a warm jacket, hat, and gloves, as well as comfortable and sturdy shoes for walking on rough terrain. You should also pack sunscreen, sunglasses, a first-aid kit, and any medications you may need. It is also a good idea to bring a water bottle, as well as some snacks and food, as food options may be limited in some areas.
Yes, you will need your own vehicle to participate in this self-drive expedition. The vehicle should be a SUV or Bike and it should in good condition. If you are not having one, either you can opt for a seat sharing in any SUV already going on the expedition or you can rent one. Just let us know we will arrange that for you.
